Update
Throughout the month of July, the NROC’s design Build contractor Strabag, has excavated a large portion of the building foundation. In addition, they have successfully driven and tested 30 foundation piles. Excavation and backfill works are also continuing to construct a temporary access road into the site. Strabag’s design partner Macinoprojekt, are now working to design the foundations for the parking garage and the hospital campus to allow foundation construction work to begin on site in late August/ early September 2014.
The hospital campus layout drawings have now been reviewed by the City of Astana’s Chief Architect and have gained approval with very minor modifications. The design drawings have now to be presented to the local municipal sanitary authorities for their review and approval. UPMC is working with Nazarbayev University on the clinical equipment list for the facility. All clinical equipment must be registered in Kazkahstan and approved by a regulatory authority prior to the commencement of the procurement process.
Those pieces of clinical equipment that UPMC specify for the facility that are not already registered in Kazakhstan must undergo the registration process. This process can take up to 6 months and this has to be taken into account in the planning phase.
